Inspired by the time-honored techniques of West African craftsmen this class will reduce Metalsmithing to its most elemental. We will be forging not only steel, but precious metals as well.  Students will begin by forging and tempering their own tools, which will, in turn, be pressed into service making silver rings.  You’ll be walked through the process of casting an ingot, forging it into a ring, and finishing it with files and sandpaper. Students should expect to leave with a couple finished pieces and a new understanding of how metal can be worked.
