Utensils are a great project for smiths of all levels, from the beginner learning stretch material to form a wide spatula blade, to more experienced students pushing their design and finishing techniques. Best of all, when you’re finished, you’ll have a tool that’s a pleasure to use every time you cook a meal, or makes a unique gift. This class emphasizes hand-forging techniques, including material isolation and efficient use of the cross-peen to make visually dramatic, light forgings. We will also cover using files to refine our shapes, create decorative accents, and a smooth surface finish, if desired. Students can expect to leave with at least one finished utensil.
