Intermediate Bladesmithing
with
ABS Journeymen Smith - Ben Breda
Class runs: March 17-21
Tuition: $650
Material fee: $60
Skill level: Seasoned Beginner and up with a minimum of a NESM Beginner Bladesmithing course or ABS Intro.
This 5 day workshop is a comprehensive bladesmithing class. Conducted at a pace for those who know the basics already, the goal will be to produce a complete, hidden tang knife with a 4 to 6 inch mono-steel blade with the concentration being placed on proper guard and handle fit up. The blade will be mounted with a stainless guard and exotic wood handle.
This will be an intense, fast paced class. Topics covered will be knife design, a more proficient understanding of metallurgy, efficient blade forging techniques, grinding, heat treating, handles and guards.
This class would be a great jumping off point for a student that wants to take their knifemaking to the next level. For students who have completed an ABS Intro. course and want to know how to get their knives prepared and outfitted, this course will expose those next steps. Because of the nature of this class there is a prerequisite of a NESM beginner bladesmithing or ABS Intro class or equivalent.
This class is considered a crossover for those who have had the ABS Intro course and want to know what to do with your blades to go into an ABS Handles and Guards course or for those who simply need that professional insight into producing a finished more complex knife.
