In this class students will be exploring laminating wrought iron to high carbon steel and forging a highly functional chef knife out of that lamination. Covered will be material selection, working with wrought iron, forge welding theory and all aspects of finishing a knife. Students should expect to leave with a completed laminated chef knife ready to put to work in the kitchen. YOU MUST BE CONFIDENT WITH THE USE AND OPERATION OF A COAL FORGE, not so much for forge welding but how to run one right. NESM’s beginner blacksmithing or equivalent is the prerequisite for this workshop. No knife making experience necessary.
