Make a completely forged “Friction Folder”.... Cowboy style! A friction folder is a non-locking folding knife that incorporates a tab on the tang of the blade, when open and in the hand for use, your hand pressure holds the blade open.
Unique to this design is that we will use all found materials the blacksmith has on hand at all times, a used horse shoe and an old worn out file. Only three parts make this unit work, handle, blade and rivet, basic and trust worthy of performance on the open prairie.
This brief project will offer a fun forging for seasoned beginner blacksmith or bladesmith. Topics and demonstrations covered will be forging, fitting, grinding, heat treating, assembly and sharpening. Prerequisites to ensure success would have a student with a Beginner Blacksmithing or Beginner Bladesmithing under their belt prior to class.
