OpenShop – Guidelines and Specifications
We are excited to provide this new and unique opportunity to our Alumni. How will this work? Simply send a quick email to nesmforged@gmail.com with your request of date/time/tasks, we’ll make sure it’s not conflicting and you can proceed with the link to purchase the time/materials; Done! We’ll see you then.
NESM will post monthly, last week of each month for the next month.
NESM alumni ONLY.
Pre-approval of use, date/time/task before purchase.
Normal operating hours only.
Based on availability of space coinciding with weekly course schedule.
MUST adhere to “STOP/PAUSE” when current class requires it (if you are present working during a pre-scheduled course running and the instructor needs quiet, you must stop. The perk is you can watch and listen/learn !!
May bring your own materials or buy ours based on stock/availability.
Level of Use – per hour , does not include materials/supplies:
Level 1– Hot Shop – Coal or Gas forge and hand tools ONLY –$25/hr.
Level 2– Blade Shop – Belt grinder/Heat treat –$35/hr.
Level 3– Coal or gas forge and hand tools, a grinder and power hammer–$50/hr.
Materials/Supplies:
Mild steel- $2.00 per pound
Tool steel – $12.00 per foot (sold in 1 foot increments)
Belts – ANY grit – $8.00 each
There is NO instruction included in this offer, safe and/or prior use of equipment must be made clear by students prior to use. NESM will provide safety reminders.
All the same NESM shop use and safe work policies still apply, if your not sure; ASK!! We’re here to help avoid issues.
NESM will adhere to its “NO ONE CAN WORK IN SHOP ALONE” protocol. A faculty member will be present during OpenShop time, IF a workshop is not in session already.
