This course is aimed at producing purposeful and clean pattern welded steel. Explore Damascus patterns from simple to complex. Learn the techniques to make Damascus that stands out. We will cover simple mosaics through with emphasis on creating one of a kind patterns. Material selection will be discussed along with basic metallurgy to ensure that the final products will be structurally sound with the boldest contrast possible. Heat treating, polishing and etching will also be covered. Students should expect to leave with a few billets of Damascus ready to forge into knives or jewelry.
