In this Four day workshop students will complete a forged, hidden tang Japanese style “Nakiri” chef knife blade profile. All aspects of knifemaking will be covered , forging, grinding, heat treating, including safety, tools, material selection and kitchen knife design theory. Particular forging sequences are necessary for this special shape. The blades will be 1084 carbon steel with a metal bolster and choice of exotic or figured hardwood handle. Students should expect to complete one 7-8” chef knife. Beginner blacksmithing skills are strongly recommended but not necessary.
